Terms of Use.
Standby Booth is a self-service video-booth app for iPad. These terms are short on purpose. Read them once — they shouldn't surprise you.
Acceptance.
By downloading, installing, or using Standby Booth (the "app"), you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the app.
The app is published by Kai Ventures ("we", "us"). You can contact a human at support@standbybooth.com.
Apple's standard EULA applies.
Standby Booth is distributed through Apple's App Store. Your use of the app is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Apple EULA) in addition to these Terms. Where these Terms and Apple's EULA differ, Apple's EULA controls for any matter Apple addresses (license scope, use rules, App Store mechanics, etc.).
These Terms add Standby Booth–specific commitments and disclaimers on top of that baseline.
Your license.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and Apple's EULA, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Standby Booth on Apple-branded iPads you own or control.
What you can do:
- Install the app on iPads associated with your Apple ID, subject to Apple's standard family-sharing and device-limit rules.
- Use the app for personal or commercial events — weddings, brand activations, conferences, parties, anything.
- Charge clients for events where you operate the booth. The app license is yours; the events you produce with it are yours.
What you cannot do:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source from the app, except where applicable law allows.
- Resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or transfer the app to third parties.
- Use the app to record people without their knowledge or consent — see the next section.
- Bypass, modify, or remove the in-app purchase entitlement check or any other licensing mechanism.
Your responsibility as the booth host.
Standby Booth is a tool for recording video of identifiable people. You — the person setting up and operating the booth — are responsible for:
- Consent. Anyone you record must know they're being recorded and must have agreed to it. Most jurisdictions require this; many require written consent for commercial use. Comply with the laws that apply to your event location and audience.
- Disclosure. The app's attract screen and recording UI make it visually obvious that a recording is happening. That is a starting point — not a substitute for proper signage, posted notices, or guest releases if your jurisdiction or use case requires them.
- Minors. If guests under the age of legal consent will use the booth, you are responsible for obtaining permission from a parent or guardian under the laws that apply.
- Subsequent use. Once a guest's recording is on your iPad, what you do with it is on you — sharing, broadcasting, editing, social media, commercial use, anything. These Terms do not authorize uses that violate the rights of the recorded individual.
- Storage and security. Recordings live on the iPad you control. Loss, theft, or unauthorized access to that iPad is your responsibility.
Pro Unlock — in-app purchase.
Standby Booth offers a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase called Standby Booth Pro, processed through Apple's StoreKit. The purchase unlocks Premium features (longer recordings, 4K video, custom branding, USB-C storage, and more) on the Apple ID that purchased it, in line with Apple's restoration and family-sharing rules.
Apple — not Kai Ventures — handles payment, taxes, refunds, and cross-device entitlement restoration. Refund requests must be made through Apple's "Report a Problem" page. We cannot reverse charges on your behalf.
Pro Unlock is a one-time purchase. There is no auto-renewing subscription. We may add new Premium features over time; we may also reorganize which features are free and which are Premium. We will not retroactively remove features from users who have already purchased Pro Unlock.
Privacy.
Our Privacy Policy describes what the app does and does not do with information on your device. Short version: the app has no backend, runs entirely on your iPad, and we collect no data about you or your guests. Read the policy for the formal version.
Disclaimer of warranties.
The app is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that recordings will always save successfully. We strongly recommend copying important recordings to a second device or drive on the night of the event. Hardware can fail; iPads run out of storage; cables get unplugged.
Limitation of liability.
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Kai Ventures will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost recordings, lost business, lost revenue, or reputational harm — arising out of or related to your use of the app, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or related to the app is limited to the amount you paid for Standby Booth Pro (if any), or USD $29.99, whichever is less.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Indemnification.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Kai Ventures from any claim, loss, or damage — including reasonable legal fees — arising from your use of the app in violation of these Terms, your violation of any law, or your violation of any third party's rights (including the privacy or publicity rights of people you record).
Termination.
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it from your iPad. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially violate these Terms. Termination does not entitle you to a refund beyond what Apple's refund policies provide.
Changes to these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be announced in the app or on the Standby Booth home page before they take effect. Continued use of the app after a material change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the app will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable rights you may have under the consumer-protection laws of your country of residence.
